This interview is with Helen Austin. She discusses her life growing up in Brooksville and working in Blue Hill. Helen talks about growing up in poverty and working throughout her life to learn and improve herself. She discusses being a beautician, a nurse, and raising her son, Timothy. She talks about the value of adult education programs, the importance of doing things for yourself, and seeking out help when you need it. She briefly mentions the importance of the sea and lobstering to the livelihood of people in Maine and her son’s work fishing and seining. She also discusses the changes that have occurred in Brooksville and Blue Hill in her lifetime and why she thinks they have occurred. She remarks that things used to be much more peaceful, and she wishes she could go back to those times.
