Elmer Beal, former anthropology faculty member at College of the Atlantic (COA), describes his arrival to COA, including details about his hiring, as well as COA's founding within the context of the Back-to-the-land movement of the 1960s. He details his experience in the Peace Corps, and relates that to the experience of living and working within the COA community. He provides his view on the COA community from an anthopological standpoint, analyzing and describing COA's taste in music, its community values, and its student project, providing anecdotes about each. He concludes by describing his farm, and how he hopes to combine his teaching, farming, and love of music as he looks towards the future. He also touches on the Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
