Within Living Memory FA 2022

Welcome to the audio archive of stories created in the Fall 2022 Audio Storytelling class, “Within Living Memory” at College of the Atlantic. In this class, students spend ten weeks learning to how to use audio recording equipment, conduct interviews, script narrative audio stories, and edit, score, and mix those stories. The first five weeks of this course is devoted to audio exercises and listening  assignments – students hone skills and their listening ears by critiquing each other’s work and listening to a variety of stories, soundwalks, immersive audio, and podcasts from journalists all over the world. During the last five weeks, students work on three large assignments – a personal narrative audio story, an archival audio story, and a final project – the contents of which is determined by the individual.

Here you will find examples of some of that student work. To listen to the stories, scroll down and press play. All audio stories are works-in-progress, stay tuned for Final Projects and final versions of stories, after the term ends!

Student work by Asy Xaythouter, Elizabeth De Angelis,  Gus Rivers-McHugh, Hope Rankin, Katrine Bruner, Layne Kirk, Lydia Solomon, Malek Hinnawi, and Tiegan Paulson.

NOTE: To listen to stories by Malek Hinnawi, please access the personal laptop in the Media Room!
